Spiritual Tunes 1

Spiritual Tunes 1, originally uploaded by Gregor Rohrig.

This Xhosa man walked up to me as I was taking the picture of the little girl in the red dress. Tapped me on the shoulder, unwrapped his radio, smiled and said "Now you can take MY photo" and took off. Still have not been able to track him down...

Bothered Portrait

Noveli Melwa (72) has no pension, lives in the Zolani township area of Grahamstown.
“I live off picking up tin cans and selling them to buy some paraffin to cook food. I was nearly raped once while collecting cans by a group of young men. It is not safe where I live. People break into the house, sometimes when I am sleeping and take whatever they want. I look after my three grandchildren. It is not easy and I rely on kind neighbours who help me out with food to feed myself and my family.” (Mail&Guardian 15.10.2004)
